The right time to show some amazing winter driving skills

In Northern Sweden, latest Porsche Cayenne is about to be launched and whenever you get your hands on a supercar like that you definitely would love to test it like anything. The same is happening at a disused aerodrome where there is a series of special test tracks currently hosting the extreme tests.

Spectacular news is that Walter Röhrl, who is Porsche’s brand ambassador and also serves as the chief driving instructor, is going to test this new car. For those who don’t know who is Walter Röhrl; he is the double world rally champion. He has driven rally cars all his life and now he is going to test Cayenne under extreme conditions and will share useful winter driving tips.

He says when you are on one of these special tracks you got to be really careful as handling is tricky in these conditions and you need first or second gear. Special attention needs to be paid in order to stop going sideways, feel your car, see what it is doing, and observe over-steering or under-steering. The question is what will happen if you don’t pay attention?

When you are turning the car on the snow, most of the time it goes sideways because you don’t lift your foot off the pedal and the power turns it around. So all you need to do in order to avoid it, simply lift your foot off the pedal and let the nose of the car get in straight and then slightly floor the accelerator back on.

Walter also says that the power of the Porsche 911 and Audi Quattro S1 is almost the same, but the major difference is that 911 is specially prepared for the rally whereas the Quattro S1 is a standard car. Their handling is also different when you use studded rally tyres and unstudded standard tyres in the winter.
