PSA will Soon Tell you it’s ‘real-world’ Fuel Economy Figures on Both Diesel and Petrol Engines

Volkswagen scandal incited Peugeot Citroen’s efforts for better fuel economy figures on their petrol and diesel engines. In the wake of diesel gate by the Volkswagen, world automakers are now focusing on the fuel economy figures of their oil burners.

What is the Plan?

Specifically, the French automaker plans to publish the real life fuel economy figures in the future and says that the real world fuel economy figures will oppose the official European driving cycle and show the world with actual fuel economy figures.

There will be a time when people will talk about the fuel economy figures of Peugeot 308 engines that they have 76 miles per gallon of fuel economy.

How PSA will Record and Certify the Figures?

Peugeot Citroen is working with couple of environmental protection agencies to help them calculating the actual fuel economy figures on their 308 models. ThereareTransport & Environment and France Nature Environment, conducting the trials and recording the figures.

The Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedures would fundamentally supersede the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) numbers while tracking realistic fuel-economy levels.

Any Development so Far?

Peugeot Citroen has already tested and issued the figures on three models including the above-mentioned 308 saloon and the Citroen C4 Picasso, along with the subcompact DS3.These models were tested in three conditions, firstly, with loaded deck and driving in the city then motorway and secondly, with empty deck in the similar conditions.

During the both tests, they were again tested with air conditioning was turned ON, and secondly, it was turned off for exact fuel economy figures.

Real life Fuel Economy

Explicitly, the 308’s fuel economy plunged from 73 to 47 miles per gallon. The Picasso’s turned down to42 from 59miles per gallon, and the DS3 has not done any different and declined to 48 miles per gallon from previously claimed 68 miles per gallon.

But, there is nothing to worry about these model because all of them are still very good in real life. The surprising thing is that all these models are powered by 1.6-litre diesel engines of 120 horsepower. Let’s wait and see, what is coming new, in the future.
