Audi R18 e-tron Quattro No1

Today at Le Mans Practice course, Audi Motorsport had a terrible blow when the R18 e-tron quattro driven by Loic Duval had a horrific crash and turned into pieces on the famous Porsche Curves.

The details on this terrifying crash are still slim but what is stated by the head of Audi Motorsport Wolfgang Ullrich, the race driver Loic Duval has not sustained any serious injuries, he is fully conscious and talking to the doctors and relatives, but to make sure he is doing absolutely fine, a medical team is keeping him under observation.

As soon as the medical team gives an OK, he will be transferred to the hospital for complete medical check-up, as of now, he seems to be doing alright. After the crash, this hybrid diesel racer was splattered all over the side of the track and debris of it were found everywhere around the track skirts. Now the Audi team is left with only two cars to compete in the actual Le Mans 24 hours race, planned to be held this weekend.

The reason of the accident still remains unknown, but what can be seen in the footage with the wreckage is  that the R18 e-tron quattro either lost control causing it to smash its rear end into the protection barrier or it somehow went airborne right before the Porsche Curves and turned into pieces upon colliding with the side protection barriers.

Ingolstadt manufacturer’s chances of winning will dramatically decrease if their number one car which is driven by Loic Duval is missing the action. It is the only manufacturer sporting three cars where car number two is driven by Tom Kristensen and the car number three by Lucas di Grassi.

Their chances of winning are slim and depend on monocoque chassis, if it’s in good condition the team can build the car till Saturday and hopefully win, but if it’s all messed up, then with the same number of vehicles as the competitors from Toyota and Porsche have, chances are let’s say, fifty-fifty.
