2015 Mustang In Space-Launched

After placing the 2015 Mustang on the top of Empire State building on its 50th birthday, a couple of Ford officials along with enthusiasts launch a toy model into the space

To make the 50th birthday of 2015 Ford Mustang one epic moment, it was decided to recreate the historic event of placing the Mustang atop of Empire State Building. Now as it is done, Ford has taken one step forward and launched a ‘toy model’ of 2015 Mustang into the space, approximately 21 miles above sea level.

Michael Sego, San Francisco area Ford sales manager said that they wanted to do something really special to celebrate 50 years of Mustang and the impending arrival of the all-new 2015 Mustang; he also added that the Mustang has always been about getting behind the wheel and hitting the open road, but they have decided to take it to the bare skies.

It is not a random decision at all, this zero gravity stunt is an attempt to refresh the moment when, back in 1961, first original Mustang started its development and the astronauts took their first step into the space at that exactly same time.

The inspiration has been taken from an Austrian skydiver who – on a custom helium-filled balloon – went nearly 128,000 feet above ground level and then dived back to the Earth. Sego, in co-operation with Big Valley Ford team, has used a high-altitude weather balloon to get the die-cast Mustang up in the air.

To film the whole adventure, a GoPro Hero HD3 action camera was attached to the side instrumentation box underneath the balloon. According to the GPS transmitter onboard, the die-cast 2015 Ford Mustang managed to reach a maximum height of 110,000 feet in an hour and 14 minutes after the release of high-altitude weather balloon.
