New Vauxhall Insignia

A truly global model, more spacious and larger in size, this is the Insignia by Vauxhall

This new version of Insignia is still undergoing tests in Germany and it is believed that it needs at least 12 to 15 months before it could make its debut. This new car is going to be sold under Buick, Opel and Vauxhall badges in China, Europe and the United States. This all-new vehicle will be having new engines and styling.

Which engine will be the new one?

The European markets are going to be the first one to get these upgraded, refined, new Insignia 1.6 CDTi diesel engines. These new engines will be replacing unrefined yet economical 2.0 CDTi units used in current Insignia.

The target for General Motors will be the best-in-class refinement for the diesel Insignias and thus, GM will be offering this new 1.6 CDTi engine in a range of outputs, it will start at 136bhp and will go up to 170bhp.

Which engine is powering current Insignia?

The current Insignia is powered by 1.6-litre SIDI turbocharged petrol engine which churns out 168bhp. General Motors is also planning on offering two lower-powered versions of this engine too.

An eight-speed automatic transmission will be offered to this new Insignia. It is expected that as compared to the manual six-speed gearbox, this new automatic eight-speed gearbox will improve overall fuel economy by 3%.

What are the changes in new Insignia?

A small stretch in car’s wheelbase is the most prominent change from the second generation Insignia.

The styling theme will not change much from the original, it’s just the roofline which is higher at the rear and has a wider tail end behind the rear wheels.

The access to the rear cabin is made easier and the luggage space has also been increased, thanks to the taller door apertures. The redesigned taillight clusters and tailgate design will ensure that the boot is taller, wider and deeper than before. It will be matching 565-litre, the boot space of Skoda Superb.
