After London Mayor Boris Johnsons’ campaign against petrol and diesel vehicles, Nick Clegg has demanded a ban on diesel and petrol cars till 2040

Nick Clegg has offered massive prize money for the first auto manufacturing firm that will introduce the latest ultra-low emission cars. It doesn’t matter how old is your car, the only thing that matters is the emissions that it produces and you will win £100 million.

Under the Liberal Democrat plans, a ban is to be put on petrol and diesel engine cars till 2040. Under the proposal, UK is going to allow only ultra-low emission vehicles to be run on the roads. London’s Mayor Boris Johnson campaigns against petrol and diesel. A vast majority of today’s normal petrol and diesel engines fall into the category which will most probably be barred.

To make things even more interesting, the party has announced prize money of £100 million for the auto manufacturer who will first build the ultra-low emission car.

This temptation will enforce party’s efforts to ‘go green’. Nick Clegg is the leader of Lib Dem, he expressed that the average life expectancy of people has decreased by up to eight months due to the dangerous levels of air pollution and he is determined to tackle it by all means.

He further explained that winning the prize money is not a big deal, it’s pretty simple, and company just has to build a car with ultra-low emissions. Majority of the current vehicles are emitting 128.3g/km of CO2, the Ulev (Ultra-low emissions vehicle) should be able to beat it and go below 75g/km. If we have a look at current trends, it requires 60,000 units to be sold in order to become one of UK’s best five selling cars.

He mentioned that “Our Liberal Democrat £100 million prize fund will spark a low emission car revolution in Britain and help to build a stronger and greener economy for years to come.”
