Hyundai Sonata is now in its seventh-generation

Hyundai has introduced its seventh-generation Sonata. Apart from the hybrid version, the latest, outgoing Sonata has been a tough challenger for Accord and Camry. An Alabama built 2015 Sonata has been recently tested as first drive. It was an SE trim powered by the 2.4 Litre four cylinders and the other one was 2.0 Litre turbo version. The tested version was built in with standard equipment package. The Sonata trims line up starts from SE and leads to the Sport, Limited, and top-trim 2.0 Litre turbo a class leading Hyundai Engine.

Standard version has a 2.4 Litre engine with four cylinders and it produces 185 horsepower, while 2.0 Litre turbocharged engine is more muscular and cranks out 245hp. The most interesting thing is the power comparison of new engines and the old version; both are down on power, 198hp and 274hp respectively. Hyundai defends this low power drama as the newer engines produce muscular torque on low-ends and deliver excellent fuel economy but the official ratings are not out yet.

The power boost from the engine is handled by a six speed automatic transmission and it is the only available gearbox on all trim levels of new Sonata. The interior is spacious and controls are delectably simple and connectivity features are state of the art as well. Handling system is quick to respond and safe but devoid of any sporty pretence. The marked road noise of the preceding generation appears to be muted in the seventh generation Hyundai Sonata.

The improvements also incorporate a driver’s knee air bag, on hand forward collision warning system, blind spot detection system, and lane departure warning system. The Limited trim line with the 2.4-liter engine is pick of the bunch so far, which gives you a restful ride, calm cabin, and no turbo lag.
