Ford Focus

First Word

The Ford Focus is a compact car manufactured by the Ford motor company since 1998. It is the company’s core family car and no one in the UK can deny from that this family hatch achieved ubiquity. The third generation of Ford Focus which is known as the latest generation is far better than its previous models, bringing some new engines, a new front grille and a better quality interior, that’s why Focus rarely drops out of the top five in the monthly sales chart. It sits in the small hatchback class, where there’s stiff competition from models such as the Volkswagen Golf, Renault Megan, Vauxhall Astra, SEAT Leon and Peugeot 308.

Performance overall

The Ford Focus is -as ever- the most fun car to drive in its class. The Ford Focus has always been a fine car to drive, with a ride and handling balance to shame many cars with much sportier pretensions in hatch back family. It’s certainly a more exciting steer than a Vauxhall Astra, and it offers up more agile handling than VW Golf.

Ford’s power shift transmission is more efficient than a conventional automatic gearbox as well. Rise quality is also benefited by the sophisticated suspensions which provide a settled and composed ride at all times.

Vast Engine range option

The breadth of power train choices for the Ford Focus is extraordinary, with most of the patrols and all of the diesels featuring turbo charging for efficient and smooth performance. Petrol engines start with a 100bhp 1.6 litre, more efficient in fuel consumption and with more power 1.6 turbocharged producing 115 bhp. 1.8-litre petrol engine delivers 125bhp. At the top in this powerful lineup is the 145bhp 2.0 litre that manages the 0-62 m/h in just 9.4 seconds.

The 1.0 litre EcoBoost turbo petrol producing 123bhp, reaches 0-62 m/h just in 11 second is a good replacement of 1.6-litre petrol engine. In recent models of Focus the company has used 2.3 litre EcoBoost engine gets the car at maximum speed 165m/h with 0-62m/h sprint just in 4.7seconds. Four wheel drive and crafty electronics keep the car stable at this high speed or allow it to be playful.

In diesel engine range Ford Focus came with 1.6 litre TDCi engine from 2010 to 2014. Afterwards a good replacement has been made by Ford by 1.5-litre unit available with 94bhp or 118bhp outputs. There are two 2.0 litre TDCi diesel engines with 148bhp and 182 bhp respectively especially reserved for the Focus ST diesel. Focus ST is more popular for its healthier performance than any other diesel engine Focus has. All the diesels feel strong and reasonably quick but 2.0 litre TDCi with 182bhp has all the power you could want from a car of this size. All models of Ford Focus come with five –speed gearbox except 2.0TDCi, which is a six-speeder.

Overall look and size

All models of Ford Focus are well comfortable, seat array is good and there is a good gap between the wheel and the driver seat which gives plenty of space to driver to adjust his body where he feels best.

Dash board is elegant and overall quality of interior is not as good as others in this class. The Ford Focus is a classic family hatchback in size terms.
